As Steve Lunt, CEO Emeritus for Duncan Valley Electric, transitions into retirement, the DVEC Board of Directors announces Kassi Mortensen will step into the role of CEO beginning in July 2023.
Kassi grew up in an agricultural family, in the small, rural community of Luna, NM. Her grandparents’ ranch house located NW of Luna is too far off grid to receive electric power and to this day runs off solar and gasoline generators, giving her a true appreciation for rural electrification and the rural lifestyle. Kassi completed a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and a Master of Business Administration at New Mexico State University. In 2015 she and her husband, Nate, chose to return to Virden, NM, to the family home where Nate grew up; to raise their two children in the small-town tradition and school systems that the Duncan/Virden area could provide. She has been a member of Duncan Valley Cooperative since the move in 2015, an employee of the cooperative as the Administrative Specialist for the last five years and was appointed the new Chief Executive Officer of DVEC in April 2023, officially embracing the role of CEO in July 2023. Kassi has volunteered and worked in several areas of the community throughout the years including coaching volleyball and basketball at Duncan Schools from junior high up to high school, working with the Duncan Wildkat PTO, Greenlee Junior Rodeo Series, Duncan Valley PAL, Greenlee County Stick Horse Stampede, and much more. She is excited to continuing serving the community she has made her home as the new Chief Executive Officer of Duncan Valley Electric Cooperative, Inc.
